Learn to Hike

Full Day Course - Approx. 8 hrs

For novice hikers and those who want to upgrade their hiking skills, this foundational full day course provides hands on and dynamic learning about safe and responsible hiking. You will create a trip plan, know what to pack, emergency planning, environmental responsibility, and how to stay safe out on the trail. Includes both day and multi-day trip planning.

Learn to Canoe

Full Day Course - Approx. 8hrs

This full day course will truly enable and inspire you to get out canoeing on our amazing local waterways. Make a trip plan, risk management, gear selection, emergency plan, and of course paddling skills are all part of this all-encompassing paddling course. A must-have experience for anyone looking to advance their paddling knowledge and experience both for day trips and multi-day endeavours.

Learn to Teach Outdoors

Are you interested in teaching your classes outside? Are you looking for practical tools and field tested practices?

This engaging and practical one day workshop is aimed at introducing all educators to take Teaching Outside in Manitoba. You will participate in a day outside and will have an opportunity for exploration and hands on practice with affordable and accessible supplies. You will leave with a framework that will support teaching outside as well as several examples of lessons from various disciplines that meet curricular outcomes.

Course Fee is $75 +GST

Field Leader (Paddling & Hiking)

This 2 day course offers a systematic approach to planning and managing a paddling and/or a hiking activity for one day. Prior to the course, it is recommended that students obtain a technical paddling certification from another organization. Students must read a 80 page manual and complete attached quizzes. Course length is 20 hours. Graduates of the FL (Paddling and Hiking) course are qualified to lead one day trips into class 1 paddling environments and class 1 hiking terrain as defined in the Outdoor Council of Canada's Matrices.  The scope of practice for the FL (Paddling and Hiking) graduate can be found Here

Project Wild

Project WILD is a curriculum companion that has a wide array of activities and lessons tailored to teaching and learning outside.

Project WILD is based on educational standards, developed by scientists, and reviewed and field tested by educators. The interdisciplinary Canadian Project WILD guide features 121 complete lesson plans about wildlife and the environment that can each be adapted for any age, grade level or subject and every participant will leave with their own copy! Mathematics lessons, writing assignments, art lessons and more can be found in the pages of the Project WILD resource Manual.

Field Leader (Winter)

This one day certification course is an extension of other Field Leader courses. This module will review and deepen the event cycle and offers effective group management techniques for cold environments. The Field Leader (Hiking) is a prerequisite to this module. Students will be required to read a 40 page manual and complete attached quizzes before attending the module. Module length is 8 hours, most of which is spent outside. Graduates of the FL (Winter) module are qualified to lead one day trips in low-risk winter environments as defined by the OCC Hiking Terrain Matrix. Field Leader (Hiking)

This 2 day course offers a systematic approach to planning and managing a hiking activity for one day. Students will be required to read a 60 page manual and complete attached quizzes before attending the course. Course length is 16 hours. Graduates of the FL (Hiking) course are qualified to lead one day trips into class 1 hiking terrain as defined in the Outdoor Council of Canada's Matrices.  The scope of practice for the FL (Hiking) graduate can be found Here

Field Leader (Overnight)

This certification is an extension of other Field Leader courses. Students must have complete at least one other Field Leader course prior to registering. This module will review and deepen the event cycle and offers effective group management techniques for longer outdoor trips. Students will be required to read a 80 page manual and complete attached quizzes before attending the module. Module length is 20 hours of instruction time, most of which is spent outside, plus one night outdoors. Graduates of the FL (Overnight) module are qualified to lead longer trips in low-risk terrain classes relevant to their activity.
